Conditions Treated
Hypnotherapy is most famous for helping people with habits, addictions or phobias, such as smoking, weight loss, fear of flying etc. These sorts of concerns are perhaps the easiest to treat and therefore will normally require only one or two therapy sessions. Simply by giving direct suggestions to the unconscious mind during hypnosis, habits, phobias, and simple routed anxieties can be eliminated completely, successfully and with life changing results.
Hypnotherapy is also extremely useful when a problem has been apparent to the individual for some time, such as IBS, chronic pelvic pain, unexplained infertility, (to name just a few) perhaps not responding to, or dismissed by, traditional medical management.
The reason hypnotherapy is useful in this instance is because often a problem will begin as a seemingly simple, common or obvious physical problem, but the problem does not resolve as simply or speedily as one would expect, then anxiety and frustration often leads to – either consciously or unconsciously – the continuation of the problem which then becomes more and more problematic as it impacts on daily life.
The frustration and anxiety then creates tension in the body that hinders our ability to return to the natural healthy state that was experienced before the problem arose.
In some cases hypnotherapy can be used to access the unconscious mind and uncover the route of the problem that may have been repressed and therefore prevented the individual’s ability to overcome the physical problem; by unlocking the unconscious memory, this can then be addressed and worked through in the therapeutic partnership between client and therapist, to obtain resolution.
Alternatively, and commonly, the anxiety relating to the non-resolving problem, becomes the primary problem itself, with the use of hypnosis, the therapist can induce a state of deep relaxation then introduce positive suggestions into the unconscious mind that can then be adopted into the psyche of the individual. As the anxiety and frustration clears, so does the physical symptom.
